This three-hour PowerPoint workshop addresses in depth the critically important and usually overlooked topics of the emotional, personal, and family adjustment that retirement brings.These meetings are highly interactive and flexible so people can ask questions and provide input, as well as learn important skills and knowledge.
During the first hour we discuss the erroneous assumptions that people often make about retirement, the dangers of not being prepared for the adjustment to retirement, and some of the very important skills people need to have in order to experience a successful retirement. This hour is the same as the one-hour talk outlined on the previous page.
In the second hour attendees learn three important skills they need to have in order to experience a fulfilling retirement. We use hands-on exercises and group discussions about:
- Replacing your Work: Identifying and replacing the important things that you get from work and that may no longer be easily available during retirement.
In the final hour we continue with the hands-on exploration of important retirement tools, and if there is time remaining, finish with an open-ended discussion of any of the topics that have come up during the meetings. The skills exercises and related discussion topics in the third hour are:
The second and third hours are highly interactive and flexible so people can ask questions, provide input, and learn important skills and knowledges from the exercises and from each other.
In addition to the numerous handouts and articles that are provided, I also recommend that contracting organizations provide the excellent book, The New Retirement, by Richard Johnson, Ph.D. for each person or couple. I will make the book available at cost.
